My quest to find delicious bagels took me this morning to Brooklyn Bagel (2055 Wilson Blvd.), less than half a block from the Courthouse metro stop. I met Blondie there. She’s my local bagel expert who had recommended the spot. (Another friend SaZzy, a New York native, also claimed that Brooklyn Bagels were the best in the DC area.)
When we arrived, it was clear that this little café was not a secret to the neighborhood. The place was bumpin, but the line moved quickly. I was overwhelmed by the choices, but ended up with a Jalapeno Cheddar bagel, plain cream cheese, and a coffee. Blondie got the Sesame bagel with plain cream cheese, noting that she did not want to overshadow the deliciousness of the bagel with flavored cream cheese (Veggie Light, Scallion, Chive, Garlic & Herb, Maple Walnut Raisin, Sun Dried Tomato, Smoked Salmon, Blueberry and Strawberry).
There was also an assortment of pastries, salads, sandwiches, fruits and juices on the menu. All looked fresh and delicious. I learned when I got to the register that it was cash only, but at $5.10, I had enough in my wallet to cover it.
A table opened up in the small dining area, so we jumped on it and dug in.
The bagels were great! They had the fluffy inside but chewy outside you would expect from a New York bagel. Mine may have been a little overly chewy in some bites, but the flavor was so good, it didn’t really bother me.
Blondie raved about how much she loves these bagels, and pointed out that they bake them fresh in the back.
Brooklyn Bagel was cute, quick, and had great New York style bagels. I could probably put Operation Rockstar Bagel to rest after visiting this place, but my search will continue in order to find a good spot within the District. I know Virginia adventures are a scary prospect for many DC dwellers.

Oooh I’ve never heard of this place! I’ll have to check it out!
I think you’ll like this one. Nothing really compares to New York bagels (there’s something in the water there), but this is the closest you’ll find in the DC area. I have a few other spots to check out.
