I’m taking a break from blogging about food in China to give a quick shout out to my mom for bringing me a lovely little gift for Christmas. Before hopping on a plane to visit me in DC, she stopped at my favorite bakery in Birmingham and picked up a box of a dozen muffins! (Well, it ended up being 11 because she ate one along the way. I cannot fault her for that.)
Let’s talk about Magic Muffins for a moment. This bakery has been around since I was a child.
In addition to muffins, they also make other pastries and delicious cakes. Growing up, the coveted birthday cake was the Barbie cake, with a real Barbie doll in the middle and the cake was her dress (I don’t know if they still make it. That might be outdated.) Anyway, the point I’m trying to make is that the cakes are among the best I’ve ever eaten (not just because they looked like Barbies.)
Magic Muffins has an assortment of muffins, each as good as the next (I got these from the website. I highlighted my favorites. I don’t think this is an exhaustive list):
Wild Blueberry, Banana Nut, Carrot Pecan, German Apple, Chocolate Chip, Zucchini Carrot, Pumpkin Spice, Oatbran, Blueberry Oatbran, Cherry Jubilee, Peach Streusel, Morning Glory, Chocolate Chip (all of these are low fat!); and Orange Pineapple, Poppy, Chocolate, Strawberry (these last four are fat free!).
I don’t know how they make all their muffins low fat yet so delicious (it’s truly magical.) I just can’t get enough of them, so it’s quite a treat to have them hand delivered. Thanks mom!
